Nightline is a confidential, anonymous non-advisory listening and information service provided by student volunteers. Our service provides a safe environment in which our users feel able to talk about their concerns and feelings without fear of judgement. We uphold no political, religious, ethnic or cultural bias or affiliations.

A non-judgemental, friendly and empathetic ear. Our phone lines are open from 8pm to 8am every night during term time. Whether you’d like to talk through a concern or simply have a chat, Nightline is always here to listen. No problem is too big or small, and we’ll always listen, not lecture.
We are a non-advisory service, but we can provide information. This can be anything from takeaway and taxi numbers to specialist services.

Prefer to email? That’s absolutely fine! Our email service is open 24/7, 365 days a year and is our only service that operates outside of term time. Our anonymiser ensures that volunteers cannot see your email address. We will always aim to reply within 48 hours. Please note that in order to maintain the high standard of our service, more than one Nightline vounteer may work to reply to your emails.
Similar to our e-listening and text services, contact details are made anonymous to ensure all conversations are 100% confidential. Replies are instant and the service is open from 8pm to midnight during term time, subject to volunteer availability.

Abroad? Run out of minutes? You can still call Nightline free of charge by calling us on Skype. Both video and audio calls to sheffieldnlskype are automatically forwarded to our phones, so they will be treated like any other call. Our volunteers won’t see your skype username and will not know whether you called from a phone or from Skype.
