Sheffield Nightline is a confidential and anonymous listening service run by student volunteers, provided for their peers at the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University. We are open every night between 8.00pm and 8.00am during term-time, and provide a safe environment for our users to talk about their concerns – no matter how big or small – without fear of judgment. Our service now includes two phone lines (listening and information), e-listening (email), and an Instant Messaging (IM) chat. We uphold no political, religious, ethnic or cultural bias or affiliations.
Nightline volunteers do not get paid for the work that they do; they give their time to the organisation because they hope that they are providing a valuable resource to their fellow students. Unfortunately, the work that Nightline does costs money, and whilst we are lucky enough to receive funding from both universities, there is always more we could be doing to expand the service and help it run more efficiently.
